A National Autism Strategy

July 29, 2019

This spring my colleague MP Judy Sgro circulated an open letter to all Liberal MPs, asking them to sign onto a call for a National Autism Strategy.

I was happy to lend my signature and I was proud to see 33 of my colleagues do the same. The delivery of autism services is the responsibility of the provinces, but in the past year the Provincial Conservative government has created chaos and confusion for parents and children across Ontario.

Here in Guelph, service providers like Kids Ability have cut half of their staff.

I've met with families in Guelph who have been out on the lawn of Queens Park demanding that their children have a chance to get the support they need.

There is an opportunity for the federal government to take a leadership role in improving the quality of life for the estimated 500,000 Canadians with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
